Hurricane Irma Relief from IRS
The IRS has now granted expanded relief to any area desginated by FEMA as qualifying for either individual assistance or public assistance in the state of Florida.
This encompasses all 67 Florida counties.
This expanded relief permits the IRS to postpone certain deadlines which fall between 7/4/17-1/31/18. These deadlines have been granted additional time to file and are now all on January 31, 2018.
This includes Individual and Business Income Tax returns with extensions, as well as Estimated tax payments that were originally due September 15, 2017 and January 16, 2018.
Affected taxpayers in a federally declared disaster area have the option of claiming disaster-related casualty losses on their federal income tax return for either the year in which the event occurred, or the prior year.
